Keith Lee - DBZ's Influence on WWE

Dragon Ball Z's Influence on WWE

Now, when it comes to entertainment television people love watching other people fight. "I make a living beating up people. Don't you wish you had my job?" (paraphrased) said Connor Mcgregor when he made his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

But regardless of what form the fight is - UFC, wrestling or anime - the reason why people are drawn to them is because of the entertainment value. There is a reason why we pay to watch WWE online or on TV, and also a reason why the two dudes punching each other outside a bar after 8:00 p.m. does not have much viewership. The reason is that entertainment of this type needs to be designed, catered and tailored and made engaging for the audience to be invested in.

However, it is quite amusing to watch the various forms of fighting meld and mix together. Dragon Ball Z is not even the first piece to have influenced WWE Superstars what with Alexa Bliss taking cues from Suicide Squad, and Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns' designs also having a mechanical, anime-style look.

Alexa Bliss

This brings us to Keith Lee. This WWE superstar was up until recently on NXT, and boy does he take inspiration from Dragon Ball Z.

I am particular in citing Dragon Ball Z here because this refers to the time after the Saiyan Saga. With Raditz's appearance on Earth and the introduction of the iconic Saiyan Armored Suits. This does not imply that the designers directly copied from the famous anime, but rather, their choice of looking up to such designs and integrating it into a wrestler's apparel is noteworthy.

In fact, the Superstar himself has always been a huge fan of Dragon Ball Z - he said so himself. His finisher is actually called the "Spirit Bomb" - the powerful ki attack that Goku learned at King Kai's place. About his look, it seems reminiscent of a more rustic and wilder frame (as compared to the sleek Saiyan Armor), but hey! - whatever works right?

As of writing this article he has had two matches against Randy Orton and has defeated the Legend Killer. Here's to hoping his stay in the WWE is memorable!
